One of the greatest draws of living in Calahaln is its proximity to the South Yadkin River. It’s the perfect place for swimming, fishing, and boating. It even has a 125-mile-long paddling trail called the Yadkin Pee Dee River Trail, which visitors can cross by kayak or canoe. You can get in or get out at one of the several access points. You can take the river to other parks, like Boones Cave and Rocky Forest. There are also camping and hiking opportunities near the river.
If you’d rather stay overnight at your outdoor destination, there are camping and RV resorts by Lake Myers, just beside Calahaln. Lake Myers RV & Camping Resort offers canoes and kayaks for rent on the lake and has live entertainment, basketball courts, a game room, and a playground. There are pools at the resort if you want to be in the water but don’t want to venture too far.
Davie County is recognized as one of the top dairy-producing counties in North Carolina, often grabbing the #1 spot. At one time, there were as many as 100 different dairies in the area. Some, you can still visit. Just down the I-40, for instance, you’ll find Wallace Farm, which has operated since 1863. On top of the dairy, poultry, and crops, the farm raises miniature horses and produces hay, compost, soil, and mulch. The farm invites visitors to learn more about green environmental practices.
If you’re looking for a bite to eat, there are some fantastic options within about a five-mile radius of Calahaln. La Carreta serves genuine Cuban cuisine like croquettes, yuca fries, ceviche, and ropa vieja. Feeling more adventurous? The family-friendly restaurant has southern eating like baby back ribs, ribeye, fried catfish, burgers, “sammiches,” and more. And all that’s just the intro course to ice cream treats like sundaes, soda floats, and milkshakes.
Just ten minutes from Calahaln, you’ll find yourself in Mocksville, home of the Masonic Picnic, one of the state’s oldest annual festivals. It’s been going on since 1878 and features carnival rides, special speakers, food trucks, music, corn hole, and for a good cause: the Oxford orphanage.
Calahaln is a spectacular place but isn’t immune to the insects and nuisance
rodents that plague the rest of North Carolina. The town, in particular, is up against some especially pesky foes because of its proximity to many different water bodies, mountains, forests, and plains. The same things that make the area beautiful contribute to pest problems. But there’s no need to fret; At Ease Pest Solutions is committed to ensuring residents and business owners can enjoy their community. Whether you’re looking to get rid of a functional problem or prevent pests from showing up in the first place, our locally-owned and operated company has you covered.
