Caldwell

Caldwell, North Carolina

Caldwell, NC

Caldwell, North Carolina, is a tiny, unincorporated community in Mecklenburg County. Regarding demographics, it is part of the Charlotte area, with Huntersville, Concord, and Mooresville among a handful of other towns nearby. There’s another Caldwell community in Orange County, one in Gaston, and 35 more beyond North Carolina! Caldwell has a unique vibe all its own but its name, interestingly, is quite un-unique.

Over a million people call this region home, so there is plenty to see and do around town. But what makes our Caldwell special? Perhaps it’s the area’s rich history, vibrant culture, or numerous attractions. Here are just a few enticements you won’t want to miss.

Nature lovers will love the McGill Rose Garden in Charlotte. With over 1,000 rose bushes along with sculptures, fountains, benches, and meandering paths, this park is one of the most breathtaking public gardens in the entire country. You’ll also find the Big Rock Nature Preserve in Charlotte, which features a wooded area with a gigantic, towering rock formation that Native Americans used as a shelter for more than 7,000 years.

Caldwell is also NASCAR country. Racing fans are in for an exciting time at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Zmax Dragway in Concord. And for more family fun, check out the Sea Life Charlotte-Concord Aquarium, which offers a fascinating glimpse under the sea. Or, if you’d rather be in the water, splash around at the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park for a while.

As a region rich in history, no trip to the area is complete without taking in one of the area’s museums. You can drive to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, but don’t miss either the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art or the Charlotte Museum of History. And you cannot ignore the region’s haunted history. How about a tour of seven cool, creepy, unusual gravesites with Atlas Obscura? Or a guided walking tour by lantern light showcasing some of Charlotte’s haunted landmarks?

Meanwhile, in nearby Huntersville, there are numerous other attractions, like the Carolina Raptor Center, a nature center where you can get up close and personal with various birds of prey. Huntersville is also home to two of North Carolina’s most-loved festivals, the Carolina Renaissance Festival and the Hops and Hogs Festival. (With a name like that, how could you not want to go?!)

Speaking of hops and hogs, the area has some fantastic eateries. The Old Mecklenburg Brewery has hops galore and an old-world outdoor biergarten with a modern flair. If BBQ is on your mind, you’ll find none better than Midwood Smokehouse, which dishes up some award-winning regional specialties. And if you crave spicy fare, head to The Lost Cajun in Huntersville. It’s NOLA in NC. Lastly, for a sweet treat, head to the Batchmaker. You haven’t lived until you’ve had their Oatmeal Cream Pie.

Life in Caldwell is as sweet as the Batchmaker’s cookies, but like many towns throughout North Carolina, we also have our share of pest problems.
