Mount Mourne

Mount Mourne, North Carolina

Mount Mourne, NC

Named after the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland by early settlers, Mount Mourne, North Carolina, has had an operating post office since 1805. It is an affluent community in Mooresville, where residents have a higher income than 61% of Americans. Almost 50% of the workforce holds managerial, executive, or professional jobs. Immigrants have had a place here since the town was founded, and more than 54% of the people trace their roots to Germany, Ireland, Italy, Asia, and Scotland. The area is set up for a great future as the city is ranked #1 in Public School Performance in North Carolina

No other structure represents the town better than the Mount Mourne Plantation, built in 1836 by Major Rufus Reid. Corn, cotton, and wheat were grown here, and at the height of its production, the plantation was the 2nd largest in Iredell County. As a result, The Major became one of the wealthiest men in the State. In 1974, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places. It was built in the Federal-Greek Revival style, and a portrait of Major Reid still hangs over the front parlor mantel.

Step out of a piece of history and head to the ultra-modern Pit Indoor Kart Racing and Family Entertainment Center. The Pit is over 140,000 square feet of adrenaline-pumping fun. At 70k square feet, the 1/3rd mile indoor racetrack is one of the biggest in the country. Race 40 miles per hour while testing your skills on the 20 challenging turns. The younger kids are also taken care of here on the Peanut Track, where karts can run at seven mph. There is much to do here besides racing, with Lazer Tag, Cannonball Air Blaster, Escape Rooms, Mini-Golf, and more. The Pit is one of the premier entertainment venues in North Carolina and is a great place to hold a birthday party or corporate event and can accommodate over 500 people.

The Lazy 5 Ranch is the perfect spot for a slower-paced day. Called the Lazy 5 after founder Henry Hampton's family, the place has been transformed over 30 years. Before it was open to the public, school groups could view the exotic animals. There are now over 750 animals from around the world, including antelope, giraffes, ostriches, and more. The Lazy 5 also has a program to help recover endangered species like the ring-tailed lemur, Gravy Zebra, and Scimitar Horned Oryx. Walk around the petting zoo or drive through the safari and feel like you've been transported to another land.

In the zoo setting, exotics are wonderful; however, in the form of invasive species, they can cause terrible damage. Pests like the Formosan subterranean termite can eventually cause structural damage to your home. If an infestation strikes, it is time to bring in At Ease Pest Solutions. We are the area's number 1 pest control service, and our experts can handle the toughest bugs, including ants, roaches, and bed bugs. Before things get out of control, contact us for an estimate.
