More Than Meets the Eye
Although Mount Ulla has a population of only 2,525 (which makes it the smallest township in its county), that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in
fun
and things to do. Whether you want to spend your Saturday in the fields of Patterson Farm picking your own strawberries or at Sloan Park playing horseshoes, there is something for everyone in this friendly, locally-run town.
Family Fun on the Farm
Patterson Farm, operated for over 125 years by the Patterson family, is one of the largest tomato growers in North Carolina. Their tomatoes are shipped all over the United States and even to Canada. The farm is made up of hundreds of acres, on which the Pattersons grow other produce like peppers and strawberries. Patterson Farm offers pick-your-own strawberry fields during spring and summer, along with their Farm Market which is in operation from March until November. Patterson Farm is committed to educating Rowan County residents and visitors about the importance of knowing where their food comes from, as well as how important it is to support local farmers and small businesses. The farm hosts events year-round that are fun and educational, and where families can make memories that last, such as a petting zoo, and pumpkin patch tours.
Take Yourself to the Park
Sloan Park is a nearly 100-acre recreational area offering picturesque scenery along with many activities for families to enjoy on a day out, including fishing in Fred’s Pond, hiking, baseball fields, picnic and grilling areas, and a playground. Looking for a great venue to host a birthday party or social event? You can rent one of Sloan Park’s shelters for your big day and celebrate by grilling up some burgers from the local grocery. You can even rent Don’s Gazebo for a wedding ceremony you’ll never forget. Rental fees vary for many of the park’s facilities, according to whether or not you are a Rowan County resident, which is just another example of Mount Ulla supporting its locals!
While you’re at Sloan Park, don’t forget to check out
Kerr Mill,
a historical gristmill that used to produce cornmeal and flour for the residents of Rowan County. This important site boasts milling equipment and artifacts dating all the back from the early 1800s. Sloan Park, open daily year-round, is a great way to find some peace and quiet, with fewer crowds than some city parks in surrounding areas (one of the benefits of being in the smallest township in North Carolina!).
Locally Sourced Pests
As much fun as these activities in Mount Ulla are, you can’t do them while avoiding bugs. In North Carolina, pests are unfortunately a natural part being outdoors – but that doesn’t mean that they need to pester you. Whether you’re worried about bringing home
fleas
from the petting zoo or keeping your wedding at Don’s Gazebo bug-free, At Ease Pest Solutions is here to help. Like Patterson Farm, At Ease Pest Solutions is locally owned, and takes great pride in also being veteran owned and operated. Call At Ease Pest Solutions to have it done right the first time.
