Salisbury is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, northeast of Charlotte. In the mid-1750s, the area which became present-day Salisbury was the county seat of
Rowan County.
They adopted the name from a town in England of the same name.
The Great Wagon Road was a valuable source of transportation for settlers headed into the southern areas of North Carolina. Because of this, Salisbury became a central economic area of the region. They built a post office in Salisbury in 1792 which is still in operation today.
