When it comes to Union Grove, North Carolina, there is no greater tradition than the Ole Time Fiddler's and Bluegrass Festival, an annual event that started in 1924 as a fundraiser for school supplies. The convention became the most significant entertainment event, drawing musicians and attendees from a wider region. The festival has different age group categories for fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and other competitions, with the "Fiddler of the Festival" award being the most coveted. The event includes workshops to preserve the art of traditional music and is recorded live. The festival is a place for musicians, families, and friends to gather for a weekend of fellowship and old-time music. The 98th anniversary of the festival was celebrated in 2022, making it the oldest continuous festival of its type in North America.
Van Hoy Farms, rooted in Appalachian tradition, is a 107-acre campground and multi-use live event space. The park has many amenities, including an indoor and outdoor concert arena, limited primitive camping, an outdoor swimming pool, basketball courts, hiking trails, and more. The facility is surrounded by rolling hills, flowing streams, and dynamic cities, making it an ideal location for camping and concerts. The mild weather provides the perfect backdrop for festivals, jamborees, exhibitions, and more. The coliseum has full vendor hookups, camping areas, and a covered seated arena. There are plenty of other ways to stay entertained here: hike, wade through the stream, or listen to music on the deck by the pool. You can also visit the nearby Amish village to purchase bread, candies, and fresh produce. Whether seeking tranquility or entertainment and celebration, Van Hoy Farms is a great place to visit.
The Union Grove area has long been known for its rich wildlife and hunting. The Waterfall Preserve is a picturesque Upland Gamebird Hunting Preserve that provides professional services for guided Bob-white Quail, Chukar, and Pheasant hunts and non-guided hunts for the hounds-man. The preserve has over 200 acres of native grasses. The owners are committed to passing on the great tradition of upland gamebird hunting and welcoming youth hunters. Packages include half or full-day hunts for 1-3 shooters, guided or non-guided. The fully stocked fields have the potential to hold over 6,600 individual quality birds during a single season. The staff takes care of dressing, cleaning, and packaging harvested birds. Participants must have a North Carolina hunting license or a Controlled Hunting Preserve license for North Carolina.
