The Wall family played a significant role in the settlement of our community in northeast Davidson County. Samuel W. Wall established a coach-making business in the area in 1860, and his sons founded the Wall Lumber Company in the late 1880s. The community that grew up around Samuel's farm and shop was named Wallburg. George Wall, one of Samuel's sons, built a house on a forty-acre tract of land he purchased from his father in 1888. The present Wall residence was built in 1896, and George and Hattie lived there until they died. They had deeded the house to their daughter and son-in-law, who continued to reside there until their deaths. The George W. Wall House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The most comfortable weather in Wallburg is September, May, and October, so take advantage and spend some time outdoors. The Union Cross park has two lighted softball fields, a 1600-foot rock dust walking path, tennis/pickleball courts, horseshoe pits, and more. Additionally, the park has a large sand area with a giant sand mound to climb.
Even though the town is small, there are two golf courses to enjoy. Meadowlands Golf Club in the Piedmont Triad boasts of a signature Hale Irwin Design with long, rolling fairways and bent grass greens that meander through an abundance of nature. The course is one of the best in the Triad area, providing a unique "Member for a Day" experience. Golfers are challenged with strategically placed bunkers, treacherous water hazards, and mature trees lining the narrow fairways. With a wonderful setting of forested hills dotted with sparkling blue lakes and streams, Meadowlands Golf Club is as scenic as it is challenging.
The Olde Homeplace is a Par 72, 6515-yard public golf course with Bentgrass greens and Bermuda Grass tees and fairways. The course is consistently ranked as one of the best-maintained public courses in the area. Olde Homeplace was built by Don Charles, a renowned golf course builder who built nearly seventy courses during his career and was designed by Don's son.
After an energetic round of golf, it may be time to take care of your sweet tooth. Cupcake Cuties was founded by Brad and Christy Davis, who turned their passion for baking into a business. Starting from their home, they served their friends and customers until they finally opened their first storefront in Wallburg in September 2015. Brad and Christy prioritize supporting their community by sourcing supplies from local farmers and businesses such as Cheesecakes by Alex, Hershey's Ice Cream, and Foster Hobbs Coffee. In 2020, they were named one of the top three cake places in Winston-Salem. They also host various events throughout the year, including Valentine's Day events, PJ nights, and visits from Santa, among others.
